In Bahamas Forum, Dom. Rep. is called safe, attractive for investment

FREEPORT, Bahamas.- The President of the Round Table of Commonwealth Nations in the Dominican Republic on Friday said the Dominican Republic is a legally safe and attractive destination for foreign investment.

Fernando Gonzalez Nicolas, who took part in the Business and Investment Forum of Commonwealth Nations in the Bahamas, affirmed that his country offers the incentives, opportunities and security which make it attractive for foreign investment and businesses.

He stressed that the Dominican government, headed by president Danilo Medina is known for protecting foreign investment and respecting the legal framework.

The business leader said Commonwealth countries are the largest bloc of foreign investors which the Dominican Republic counts on, “and are successful in their activities in our country. “Mining is becoming one of the Dominican economy’s main pillars, expected to be the main export in the near future and is poised to figure on mining’s world map for the first time.”

Business and investor delegations from 27 different countries attended the Forum

In addition to González Nicolas, Dominican Industry and Commerce minister José del Castillo and Dominican Republic Export and Investment Center (CEI-RD) director Jean Alain Rodriguez attended the event, among others.

The London-based Commonwealth Business Council, CBC and the Bahamas Government hosted the event.

The CBC is an umbrella organization of major companies based in the Commonwealth’s 54 countries, among them leaders in mining, oil, natural gas, banking, power plants, tourism and industry.

The Round Table of Commonwealth Countries in the Dominican Republic is an initiative to promote bilateral relations between the Dominican Republic and the 54 countries that make up the world conglomerate.

The Roundtable includes the binational chambers of commerce from Britain, Canada, India and Trinidad & Tobago, which are based in the country.

Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie, Castillo and Rodriguez addressed the Forum, among others.
